The Lyrebirds Community Choir are an all inclusive, all abilities group of humans who love to sing and connect through song. They sing a wide variety of music, accompanied and acapella. Whether you'd like to embrace singing as a beginner, or someone more advanced.. or maybe you just want a hobby that connects you with others? All are Welcome!
The Lyrebirds Community Choir has been running for almost 10 years, meeting every week at St Luke's Church in Cockatoo, 7.15pm Monday nights during school terms. Musician, teacher and composer Dalys Mithen has been leading the choir since 2017, arranging a variety of music to suit the current tastes and abilities of the members of the group.
The Lyrebirds survived the Covid lockdowns by continuing to connect via rehearsals over zoom, and post Covid were joined by incredible Steve Kyval on piano. Supported by the volunteer committee, the Lyrebirds have grown to 40+ ongoing members, performing at various local events throughout the year.
The group benefits from Dalys' singing tuition every week with fun vocal warm ups, and with Steve's abilities on the piano as accompanist the group enjoys a very supportive learning environment.. meaning fantastic sounding results!
At the heart of every song the Lyrebirds sing is the connection with the intention of the song, and a magical connection with each other. This true intention overpowers any difference of ability and creates a unique group feeling and sound every time they sing.
You can hear The Lyrebirds perform their brand new Christmas repertoire at the Emerald Carols by the Lake on the 13th December 2024.
